Mt Barker Mitre 10 today handed over a new chainsaw, impact screw driver and hand tool worth $5000 as part of the commitment to support volunteer fire-fighters in the town. Brigade spokesman Lieutenant Chapman said the equipment replaced some old worn gear and was welcomed by the fire-fighters. "These are the extras that will make our job easier" He said. We are pleased to be getting the additional equipment and to have a local business that is prepared to support us is excellent" MT Barker store manager Derrick Smith said the CFS was a worthy community organisation. "Mitre 10 has been looking after the local community for more than 20 years and this is another example of a local looking after locals, “he said

$3000 DONATION FROM ELECTRA NET

ElectraNet strives to meet its obligations and responsibilities to people who live near, and the environments around, our assets. We take precautions at all times and specifically during the bush fire danger seasons. In consultation with the Country Fire Service (CFS), activities are managed to address risks associated with fire prevention and management.

ElectraNet also follows the Country Fire Ban District regions for vegetation management activity each year. It’s the CFS guys who we turn to for assistance to ensure we are on the right track.

So, when we heard a few local CFS Brigades required assistance preparing for the next summer Fire Season, ElectraNet stepped up to support.

CFS Brigades in Mt Barker, Pt. Lincoln, Clare and Mt. Bryan all received a corporate donation for the provision of equipment, training and recruitment costs to prepare for the coming season. Mt. Barker CFS Brigade are putting the contribution towards buying additional lights and reflectors for the main Rescue / Pumping Appliance in their fleet. The sponsorship was part of ElectraNet’s community benefit program.

LT Kamminga of the Mt Barker CFS brigade said at the time of receiving the cheque for the Mt Barker CFS Brigade, “We make the best of all additional dollars coming our way and in this instance the money will be well spent on the Rescue / Pumping Appliance to ensure there are extra reflective stripes and lights, as road safety for the Firefighters on the team is important.”

ElectraNet plays its part in protecting the community from bushfires by maintaining a cyclical vegetation clearance program on all its powerlines throughout the State. We take this responsibility very seriously and so we understand the expectations of regional communities and in turn appreciate services such as the local Country Fire Service units run by local community members.
